What Is an Age Calculator?
An age calculator is a free online tool that computes your exact age from your date of birth. Unlike a simple subtraction of years, a proper age calculator accounts for whether your birthday has occurred yet in the current year, the varying lengths of each month, and leap years — giving you a mathematically precise result in years, months, and days.
Beyond your age, this calculator also tells you your total days lived, the number of days until your next birthday, and fun life milestones like estimated heartbeats, years spent sleeping, and times you've orbited the sun.

How Age Is Calculated
Age is calculated by finding the difference between two dates — your birth date and a target date (usually today). The process works in three steps:
- 1Count full years — Start with the year difference. If today's month/day is before your birth month/day, subtract one year (your birthday hasn't occurred yet this year).
- 2Count remaining months — After removing full years, count the remaining months. If today's day is before your birth day, subtract one month and borrow days from the prior month.
- 3Count remaining days — The leftover days after full months are subtracted. This step correctly handles months with 28, 29, 30, or 31 days, including February in leap years.
Leap years: A year is a leap year if divisible by 4, except century years (e.g. 1900) which must be divisible by 400. This means February has 29 days in a leap year, which matters when your birthday is February 29.
